Business News – Financial News – Stock Exchange — Wall Street — Market News – New York Stock Exchange 2014
After losing ground in the first week of 2015, stocks were falling again this week. On Monday, oil prices declined after Goldman Sachs (NYSE: GS) cut their 6-month forecast for WTI to a barrel. Aluminum giant Alcoa kicked off earnings season on Monday topping projections with a .4 billion revenue.

Tuesday was a big day for the labor market; we got the job openings and labor turnover survey report, which is one of the Federal Reserve’s favorite economic indicators. According to the report, US companies had 4.97 million job openings in November, a post-crisis high. Apple (NASDAQ: APPL) was a big contributor early on to the rally, after Credit Suisse (NYSE: CS) upgraded the company to outperform. But after a wild ride on Tuesday stocks gave up early gains and finished in the red.

On Wednesday U.S. stocks declined for a fourth straight session as an overnight collapse in the price of copper pushed futures lower, with stocks never able to gain momentum back during the day. December Retail sales posted 0.9 percent loss and investors are worried about global economic growth. Earnings season for big US banks kicked off with reports out of Wells Fargo (NYSE: WFC) and JP Morgan Chase (NYSE: JPM). Wells Fargo was able to beat Wall Street forecasts with a slightly higher net income. But JPMorgan reported a 7 percent decline in fourth-quarter earnings, which sent the company’s stock down 3.5 percent for the day. JPMorgan Chase, the biggest bank in the U.S. by assets, has been hit pretty hard by legal costs over the past year.

On Thursday stocks continued its downturn for a fifth day, with the S&P finishing below 2,000 for the first time in a month. Citigroup (NYSE: C) and Bank of America (NYSE: BAC) were the latest US banks to report earnings, both companies posted disappointing earnings per share. There was some big news coming out of Switzerland: the Swiss National Bank announced that it would give up its minimum exchange rate, which surprised a lot of central banks and investors. Jobless claims jumped sharply to 316,000, the highest level since September; manufacturing in the New York region climbed to 9.95; PPI fell 0.3 percent, inflation at the producer level continued to decline on lower energy costs.

On Friday Industrial production for December slipped 0.1 percent; Consumer price inflation fell 0.4 percent; and Goldman Sachs fell after the investment bank reported a 7 percent decline in profit.

  • Considering Hiring a Jumping Castle?

    Considering Hiring a Jumping Castle?

When you attend any party and there are no properly cooked foods and music, then the bash is considered not enjoyable at all; that is in an adult’s perspective. But for kids, good games, and toys will do just fine to entertain them for the whole period. Amongst all the toys available in the market, the best of them all is the jumping castle. It can be defined as a large air pressured plaything that is made from either vinyl or robust PVC.

They are an excellent way for recreation because they are simple and easy to transport and store. The bouncy castle is supplied with air, thus has to be kept constantly aerated because as the kids jump and play in it, then a lot of it will come out through the pores. These days, there are numerous companies, which are leasing out jumping castles. The biggest challenge that is faced by many is renting the best. Depending on which country you came from, a bouncy castle may be named differently; some call it inflatable castle and others jumping palace. One company we recommend in Australia is Jumping Castles Ningi & Clontaf.

In Caboolture, they are commonly referred to as inflatable fortress; therefore, if you intend to hire one, then they should be members of the AAA (Australia Amusement Association). This organization has specific rules that must be followed. One of such is that aeration has to be done from at least three sides. Another one is that the number of kids at ago is limited depending on the size. This ensures the safety of the children as they play.

Therefore, there are important points to keep in mind as you contract a jumping castle company to your child’s birthday party, the location of the company is very important. The closer they are to your home, the better. You must also specify where it shall be placed. This will be vital since if you intend to have the party inside, a smaller one will be recommended, but if it is an outdoor bash, then a big one is essential thus all the safety measures will be taken into consideration.

Another factor which you should look at is the number of children jumping inside. This will clearly be instructed by the service provider. This will be vital to safeguard the kids.

One essential point that you should ignore is the stability of the bouncy castle you are hiring. It should not deflate at all when in use. The air supply is usually done by strong powered fans which continuously pump in air, thus it remains inflated.

There are other accessories that should be availed when you rent the jumping fortress from a firm. These include air blowers, crush mats, circuit breakers and other safety equipments.

It is always important that you do your research well before leasing the inflatables. Ask for references, and take into consideration the feedback you get from others on the company you want to rent from. Most of these firms have websites; thus, it will be easier to read reviews from other customers so that you can make the right decision.

Booking is another essential factor that must be taken into account.

BMW i3 – is this the world’s most desirable affordable electric car?

There may be disquiet about its gentle rate of climb, but the electric car has, at last, taken off. The BMW i3 is leading the charge. Could it really be better in the real world than the Tesla Model S?

BMW, along with Tesla, is doing what looked impossible a few years ago. Electric cars are finally becoming desirable. Maybe it took the power of a couple of premium brands to help them on the way. Or maybe it’s the radical looks and carbonfibre structure of the BMW i3? Either way, EVs are here to stay. And if the BMW i3 is anything to go by, they’re here to be enjoyed, rather than endured.

The first whole week of the New Year got off to a very volatile start. On Monday, crude oil fell below a barrel for the first time since April 2009, prompting a big selloff over concerns that energy industry cuts in capital spending will spread to the rest of the economy. Also hurting markets was an election campaign in Greece that might lead to that country leaving the euro zone. Motor vehicle worldwide sales for December fell 1.7% to 16.9 million units and fell 2.9% to 13.6 million units for North American sales, however, the numbers still are relatively strong.
On Tuesday, oil continued to fall, closing below a barrel and markets also continued downward, with the S&P 500 declining for the fifth straight day. Factory orders for November were down .7%, contracting for the fourth straight month, and the ISM non-manufacturing index fell to 56.2, down from the previous month’s unexpectedly high level of 59.3.
On Wednesday, markets finally had a strong rally, helped by no surprising news. The Fed released minutes from their December meeting showing they don’t plan on raising interest rates at least through the first quarter. The ADP employment report for December was up 6.2% to 241,000 new jobs and the trade deficit for November narrowed to billion, due largely to lower oil prices.
On Thursday, the market rally continued, with the Dow Industrials closing up 323 points, with investors’ mood bolstered by a stabilization of crude oil prices, as well as news that that European Central Bank might start easing monetary policy as early as the end of January. Jobless claims for the week ending January 8th were down 4,000 to 294,000.
On Friday nonfarm payrolls for December were 252,000, down from November’s 353,000, however, the number was well within economists’ expectations. The unemployment rate dropped to 5.6%.

Australian man wakes from coma speaking fluent Mandarin but had completely forgotten English

The Australian man who woke from a coma after a horrifying car crash speaking fluent MANDARIN (but had completely forgotten English)
Ben McMahon was the passenger of a car that was involved in a car crash
The 22-year-old was in a coma for more than a week before he woke up
He had only learned Mandarin at school and was never fluent in it
The Melbournian is now studying commerce at a Shanghai university
Two years ago Ben McMahon woke up from a coma more than a week after a horrific car crash that almost claimed his life only being able to speak Mandarin.
The 22-year-old remembers how he woke up and saw a nurse who looked Asian standing by his bed and said to her ‘Excuse me nurse, I feel really sore here’ in Chinese.
He then asked the nurse for a piece of paper and pen and he wrote on it in Mandarin: ‘I love my mum, I love my dad, I will recover.’
In 2010, a 13-year-old Croatian girl woke up had replaced her fluency in her native language with speaking German.
More recently, a U.S. navy veteran was found unconscious in a motel room and had no recollection of who he was and spoke fluent Swedish in July 2013.
But a Queensland Brain Institute neuroscientist thinks he might have an explanation about what happened to Ben.
Dr Pankaj Sah said the brain was made up of different circuits – which assist in language, breathing, speaking and thinking – similar to electronic circuits.
According to him, what possibly happened to Ben was that the parts of the brain that recalled English were damaged in the crash and those that retained Mandarin were activated when the 22-year-old woke up from his coma.
